快三砍龙 Establishes Eight New Priority Programmes

Topics ranging from hydrogen-based fuels and battery research to changes in the Earth鈥檚 magnetic field / Approximately 鈧53 million for three years

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (快三砍龙, German Research Foundation) is establishing eight new Priority Programmes for 2023. This was decided by the 快三砍龙 Senate at a virtual meeting. The eight new consortia were selected from 29 submitted initiatives and will receive a total of approximately 鈧53 million for an initial three years. In addition, there will be a 22-percent programme allowance for indirect project-related costs.

The programmes that have now been approved cover a wide range of subjects from engineering to life sciences and natural sciences. The topics include research into hydrogen-based fuels as a contribution to the transformation of the energy system, a study of the technology of so-called Carnot batteries, which is likewise capable of contributing to the energy transition, and the analysis of changes in the Earth鈥檚 magnetic field in geology. The programmes each reflect the generic theme of the respective Priority Programme. In the coming months, the 快三砍龙 will announce the consortia individually before going on to review the incoming funding proposals in terms of scientific quality and their contribution to the overriding theme in each case.

The aim of Priority Programmes is to investigate the scientific foundations of particularly topical or emerging research areas. All programmes have a clear interdisciplinary orientation and use particularly innovative methods. Priority programmes are funded for six years.

The new Priority Programmes in detail

  • Priority Programme "Grey-box models for the qualification of coated tools for high-performance machining" (coordinator: Professor Dr.-Ing. Kirsten Bobzin, RWTH Aachen)
  • Priority Programme 鈥淎 contribution to realising the energy transition: optimisation of thermochemical energy conversion processes for the flexible use of hydrogen-based renewable fuels through additive manufacturing processes" (coordinator: Professor Dr.-Ing. Heinz Pitsch, RWTH Aachen)
  • Priority Programme "LOOPS: cortico-subcortical interactions for adaptive cognition" (coordinator: Dr. Livia de Hoz Ph.D., Charit茅 鈥 FU Berlin and HU Berlin)
  • Priority Programme "Carnot batteries: inverse design from market to molecule" (coordinator: Professor Dr. Burak Atakan, University of Duisburg-Essen)
  • Priority Programme "Reconstruction of the dynamics of the Earth鈥檚 deep interior over geological time (DeepDyn)" (coordinator: Professor Dr. Stuart Alan Gilder, LMU Munich)
  • Priority Programme "CodeChi 鈥 chitin, chitosan and chito-oligosaccharides and their interaction with proteins of the extracellular matrix and cellular signalling pathways" (coordinator: Professor Dr. Hans Merzendorfer, University of Siegen)
  • Priority Programme "Data-driven process modelling in forming technology" (coordinator: Professor Dr.-Ing. Mathias Liewald, University of Stuttgart)
  • Priority programme "Hyperbolic conservation laws in fluid mechanics: complexity, scales, noise (CoScaRa)" (coordinator: Professor Dr. Christian Rohde, University of Stuttgart)
